Nobody Whips Themselves Like Goldman Sachs Does
When asked about Greg Smith's book, Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein said this: "Nobody can flagellate themselves as well as Goldman Sachs can." This great quote comes at around the 12 minute mark in the video below. Is Blankfein going to read Greg Smith's book? No, he said critics who've read the book said to "save that hour and a half for something better". And who knew Blankfein was a speed reader, as the book comes in a 288 pages....that's a pretty fast read. How much money did Lloyd Blankfein make this past year? Well, he took a bit of a pay cut, his pockets are a little lighter, as in a cool $6.7 million dollars lighter. Still, Lloyd made $12.4 million, which is a nice chunk of change, but it's no where near what some of the highest paid athletes make. Tiger Woods makes upwards of $75 million. Kobe Bryant makes around $53 million. David Beckham makes $40 million. Alex Rodriguez makes $35 million. Of course, a big chunk of their salaries come from endorsement deals. Instead of getting their shoes shined, the leaders of Goldman Sachs like to get their heads shined to a sheen so bright that light reflects off their heads and acts as a laser pointer, hitting people in the eye whenever they turn their bald heads. Their bald heads are shaved down to such a gleaming shine that you can see your face in them. When did the bald head become so popular at Goldman Sachs? It's been said that one striving leader at Goldman Sachs, not even bald yet, but who desperately wanted to move up the ladder, shaved his Tagged bald heads, gary cohn, Goldman Sachs, greg smith, hank paulson, jim cramer, lloyd blankfein, steve kuhnOne Thing Lloyd Blankfein Knows How to Do: Manage Risk
In light of the downfall of MF Global, run by the former Goldman Sachs chief Jon Corzine, you have to give Lloyd Blankfein some credit, he knows how to manage risk and makes it his top priority. I can respect that. That may be the special ingredient at Goldman. While the firm encourages risk-taking by its traders, it also empowers its risk managers — at other firms considered the back office — to constantly challenge even the most senior leaders to keep them from going over the cliff. Lloyd Blankfein Profile in New York Magazine
Good read on Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein in the New York Magazine a few weeks ago. This made me laugh. It's old but it's awesome: “If you’re going to try to convince people you care about things other than money,” Amy Poehler quipped on Saturday Night Live, “may I suggest you remove the words gold and sack from your name?” I'm sure the higher ups at Goldman even chuckled after hearing this joke. And then they dove into their swimming pools of money like Scrooge McDuck and laughed some Tagged Goldman Sachs, lloyd blankfeinCorner Office: Lloyd Blankfein
This is an old video, from September 2009, but a good one. Blankfein talks about what he learned from the financial crisis and what he does in times of high stress at Goldman Sachs since then, from walking around the office more to just talking to more people at the firm - emailing, sending a voice mail to the entire firm. He is a fun guy to listen to, for the CEO of the vampire squid he seems very candid and straightforward, and I like how he throws in a 'hell' now again when he talks.
