The Kardashian Sisters – Kim, Khloe and Kourtney – sit down with WSJ’s Lee Hawkins for an exclusive interview about the business of celebrity. I’m sure it was tough getting the Kardashian’s to sit in front of the camera and talk about their “brand”. You know how they’re hesitant to do TV appearances.
The sisters, against their will, discuss how they developed their fashion line, how “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” helps them build an audience and brand awareness, and the ways they use Twitter and other social media to connect with their fans.
What Mr. Hawkins didn’t ask though was how much strategy is involved, at least on Kim’s part, in keeping up the controversy and allure of their “brand” by posting sexy pictures on Twitter and so forth?
What’s amazing is how many followers the Kardashian sisters have on Twitter. Collectively they have nearly 30 million followers. That’s like the entire population of Canada or Peru following the Kardashian sisters. That’s a lot of people.
Kourtney with the zinger of a line talking about how she and Khloe rang customers up at their Dash stores and learned what they liked to buy. Kim piped up and said she rang people up too, Kourtney said, “Yeah, once.”
So how long until we see a Kardashian IPO of some kind? Their store already has a nice ticker like name: DASH. Yeah, it’s going to happen, just wait.
