Good old Newt Gingrich comes out with a heck of a quote. I’m sure we’re going to hear a response from the Occupy Wall Street movement on this one. This from someone who is supposedly running for President when in fact some could say he should instead tryout for The Biggest Loser – ah, that wasn’t nice. Here’s the quote:
“All the Occupy movements start with a premise that we all owe them everything,” Gingrich said in responding to a question about his view of freedom, responsibility and morality.
He said the anti-Wall Street movement uses public parks and other services they don’t pay for and obstruct working people “so they can self-righteously explain that they are the paragons of virtue to which we owe everything.”
He continued: “Now that is a pretty good symptom of how much the left has collapsed as a moral system in this country and why you need to reassert something as simple as saying to them: ‘Go get a job, right after you take a bath.‘ (DesMoines Register)
Here it is in video – I think he worked on this line for weeks. Cain gets a good laugh out of it too:
Wasn’t Gingrich the one who didn’t want debate questions to be personal and instead should be about the issues. I guess that’s because he didn’t want to hear questions about how he cheated on previous wives while trying to get Clinton impeached.
I’m guessing a lot of the protesters would like to have jobs and have been looking for jobs. As far as taking a bath, maybe Newt will offer the use of his own bathroom for said bath. Heck, maybe he’ll even let them take a shower. That would be something. But this isn’t the first time Gingrich blasted the Occupy Wall Street protesters, though. In one of the debates he seemed to question their understanding of how profits enable corporations to own parks like the one they were occupying.
