This is the big mysterious after Buffett’s most recent 13F filing for Berkshire Hathaway’s portfolio showed he purchased one unnamed stock this past quarter which was disclosed.

The SEC offers this protection so other copycat investors can’t jump right on board when someone like Buffet is trying to, perhaps, build a position in a stock. They have to wait a little big longer, most like in August we’ll know what the stock was. For now, we can only speculate.

The SEC said “confidential information has been omitted” and “filed separately with the Commission,” which many take to mean Buffett is buying a new stock.

What type of stocks does Buffett buy?  For one, he likes stocks that are others might be afraid to buy.  He likes simple stocks, things he understands and can predict their earnings potential, which is why he doesn’t by tech stocks – perhaps a mistake in some ways.  But he’s done quite while just the same – to say the least. In the end, Buffett buys stocks of companies that people will always need and use, from Coke, to Wells Fargo, to insurance to Kraft.

So, what stock is he buying, here are a few potential companies he might have bought this past quarter:

FirstEnergy (FE)
Fastenal (FAST)
Fidelity National Financial (FNF)
Cloud Peak Energy (CLD)
Exelon (EXC)
Actuant (ATU)
Forest Labs (FRX)
Gilead Sciences (GILD)
Kimberly-Clark (KMB)
ATP Oil and Gas (ATPG)
Hershey (HSY)
SandRidge Engery (SD)
